Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797-1851)

Mary Shelley was born in Somers Town, Great Britain, in 1797.
In 1816, they go in Geneva with Byron. There Lord Byron suggests that they should all write a ghost story. Mary writes Frankenstein, (1818) a Gothic novel. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in France. She also edited and promoted the works of her husband, the Romantic poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelle.
The story o Frankenstein has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films.
